Make your own experiment at home!

In the following video you can watch three simple science experiments that you can make at home.

Important!!! You need some balloons

Onion cells

Let´s make an experiment

Follow these steps to see the onion cells with the microscope.

  1. Cut an onion and remove some of the thin membrane from between the layers.
  2. Put the membrane on a slide and add a drop of iodine solution. Put another slide carefully on top.
  3. Use a microscope to look at the onion. Experiment with different lenses.

Biodiversity

We don´t know exactly how many species, or living things with similar characteristics, there are on our planet. Up to now, scientists  have discovered more than two millions different species, but there are still many more to discover.

Biodiversity can be defined as the enormous variety of living things. Some living things, such as bacteria, are microscopic, so we need a microscope to see them. Others, such as whales and trees are huge.

Task time
  • Think about three microscopic microorganisms and find out information about them.

Our planet has unique qualities that are essential for life as we know it. Can you think about these essential things that make the Earth ideal for life?
